COMITÉ CONSULTATIF SUR L’ACCESSIBILITÉ

WELCOME TO THE AAC
Members of the public are welcome to attend meetings of the Accessibility Advisory Committee for their own information or to speak to any item on the regular agenda that may be of interest to them.
 
 

BIENVENUE AU CCA
Les citoyens sont invités aux réunions du comité consultatif sur l’accessibilité.  Ils peuvent y obtenir de l’information ou prendre la parole sur chacun des points qui les intéressent à l’ordre du jour habituel.
 

Activities include:

· providing a forum for persons with disabilities to raise issues and concerns;

· providing advice and guidance to Ottawa City Council, through the Corporate Services and Economic Development Committee, on matters pertaining to policies, practices and programs in the City of Ottawa, that affect persons with disabilities;

· conducting advocacy on behalf of persons with disabilities;

· providing feedback to Council on the effectiveness of the City’s policies and practices as they affect citizens with disabilities;

· monitoring progress of development and implementation of by-laws and regulations which have an impact on citizens with disabilities (e.g. parking, zoning, sidewalk ramping, obstructions on sidewalks, etc.) and advising involved City staff and/or City Council as appropriate;

· raising issues and making recommendations regarding policies and programs which promote equal access to municipal services for citizens with disabilities in the areas of delivery of goods, services, accommodations, employment, membership and participation within the City;

 · coordinating the dissemination of information to the disabled community and the public at large regarding the Advisory Committee and any pertinent Corporate decisions;

· consulting with the community, groups and organizations to capture and communicate emerging issues to City Council and the City administration;

· raising the awareness of the citizens of Ottawa and the public sector to issues impacting persons with disabilities.
 
 

BARRY McMAHON DAY16 November 2004
WHEREAS, Barry McMahon has served as Chair of the Post-Polio program for the Ontario March of Dimes for more than thirty years; and
WHEREAS, Barry has been a long-serving member of the former City of Ottawa’s Disability Issues Advisory Committee, including four years as Chair; and
WHEREAS, Barry served as Chair of the new City’s Accessibility Advisory Committee and now currently serves as the Chair for the Accessibility Advisory Council to the Province of Ontario; and
WHEREAS, Barry is the recipient of the Peggy Allan Memorial Award for 2004, for his achievements in developing a barrier-free environment;
THEREFORE, I, Bob Chiarelli, Mayor of the City of Ottawa, do hereby proclaim 16 November 2004 as Barry McMahon Day in recognition of his dedication and tireless work on behalf of persons with disabilities in the City of Ottawa.

En outre, le CCA :

· fournit aux personnes ayant un handicap des occasions d’exprimer leur opinion et leurs préoccupations;

· guide le Conseil municipal d’Ottawa, par l’entremise du Comité des services organisationnels et du développement économique, pour les questions relatives aux politiques, aux pratiques et aux programmes de la Ville d’Ottawa qui touchent les personnes ayant un handicap;

· assure la défense des intérêts des personnes ayant un handicap;

· tient le Conseil municipal au courant de l’efficacité des politiques et des pratiques de la Ville qui concernent les personnes ayant un handicap;

· suit l’évolution des processus d’élaboration et de mise en œuvre de règlements municipaux ou autres qui ont une incidence sur la vie des personnes ayant un handicap (p. ex., stationnement, zonage, rampes d’accès pour les trottoirs, obstruction des trottoirs, etc.) et, au besoin, de conseiller le personnel de la Ville et les membres du Conseil à ce sujet;

· souleve des questions et de faire des recommandations relativement aux politiques et aux programmes qui font la promotion de l’égalité d’accès aux services municipaux pour les personnes ayant un handicap dans les domaines de la fourniture de biens et de services, du logement, de l’emploi, de l’adhésion à des comités et de la participation aux activités de la Ville;

coordonne la diffusion, auprès des personnes handicapées et du public en général, de renseignements sur les décisions du Comité consultatif et de la Ville qui les concernent;

· consulte la communauté ainsi que divers groupes et organismes afin de déterminer quelles sont les questions d’actualité et de faire part de celles-ci au Conseil municipal et à l’administration municipale;

· sensibilise la population d’Ottawa et le secteur public aux questions qui ont une incidence sur la vie des personnes ayant un handicap.
 

SPEAKING TO THE COMMITTEE
If you wish to speak to the AAC about a particular item on the agenda, please complete the ‘Speaker’s Form’ available on the table at the entrance and submit it to the Committee Coordinator who is seated to the right of the Chair.

When the issue you are interested in is to be discussed, the Chair will ask you to be seated at the table in front of the Committee.  When speaking to the Committee, please address your comments to the Chair.  (Note that your comments may be taped.)

If you wish to add an item to the AAC agenda, contact the Committee Coordinator at least two (2) weeks prior to a meeting date.  Please note that such items must be related to the Committee’s mandate.

Si vous voulez prendre la parole au comité sur l’accessibilité sur un point en particulier à l’ordre du jour, veuillez remplir le formulaire de demande de prise de parole disponible à la table à l’entrée et remettez le à la coordonnatrice du comité qui prend place à la droite du président. 

Lorsque le comité en arrive au point à l’ordre du jour qui vous intéresse, le président vous demande de prendre place à la table devant le comité.  Quand vous prenez la parole devant le comité, veuillez exprimer vos commentaires au président.  (Il est à noter que vos commentaires peuvent être enregistrés.)

Si vous désirez faire inscrire un point additionnel à l’ordre du jour du CCA, communiquez avec la coordonnatrice du Comité au moins deux (2) semaines avant la réunion.  Veuillez prendre note que ces questions doivent être liées au mandat du Comité.
